MORAI Selected as One of the Top 100 Defense Innovation Companies

Pioneering Digital Twin Development for Future Battlefield, Manned-Unmanned Teaming

  • MORAI selected for the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) project, establishing itself as a defense innovation leader.

  • Advancing simulation technology by developing an integrated M&S (Modeling & Simulation) system for drones and unmanned vehicles.

Seoul, October 7, 2024 – MORAI, a leading provider of autonomous driving simulation platforms that verify the safety and reliability of autonomous systems (automotive, UAV, maritime, robotics), announced that it has been selected as one of the "Top 100 Defense Innovation Companies." This recognition highlights MORAI's technological advancements and competitiveness within the advanced defense strategic sector.

The "Top 100 Defense Innovation Companies" program, managed by DAPA, seeks to identify and support small and venture enterprises with cutting-edge technologies in five key areas: space, drones, semiconductors, artificial intelligence (AI), and robotics. DAPA aims to select 100 companies by 2026, and this year, in its third phase, it has chosen 27 companies, including MORAI, recognized as a leader in AI. Selected companies receive up to 5 billion KRW (approximately $3.8 million) in government funding over a maximum of five years, from September 2024 to September 2029, to drive technology development. Through this initiative, MORAI plans to build an M&S system for Manned-Unmanned Teaming (MUM-T), leading digital transformation within the defense industry.

Manned-Unmanned Teaming (MUM-T) integrates manned and unmanned systems to conduct coordinated operations, maximizing efficiency and combat capabilities. M&S technology simulates real combat scenarios virtually, enhancing soldiers’ tactical decision-making and response capabilities while enabling repetitive training across various scenarios. This technology is also crucial in evaluating performance and optimizing design through virtual environments during the development and validation stages of defense systems. MORAI's solutions, using digital twin and simulation technologies, create virtual environments and operational scenarios for next-generation unmanned defense systems, including unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs), supporting comprehensive performance testing and validation.

In this project, MORAI will develop a verification environment that enhances the autonomous driving performance and stability of multi-purpose unmanned vehicles by integrating real and virtual environments. The company plans to develop hybrid visualization technology that synchronizes real and virtual objects, creating a more precise simulation environment. Additionally, to advance the development and testing of autonomous driving technology for these vehicles, MORAI will create scenario generation technology that accounts for various factors such as weather, atmospheric conditions, and urban settings. The company will also enhance its simulation capabilities with multi-parallel processing technology for modularized autonomous driving algorithms and sensors, efficiently managing large datasets.

Jung Ji-won, CEO at MORAI said, "Being selected as one of the Top 100 Defense Innovation Companies is a significant milestone that proves the value of MORAI's autonomous driving simulation technology in the defense sector. Leveraging this recognition, we aim to develop a digital twin for MUM-T, a critical component of future battlefield operations, to validate combat efficiency and improve performance and reliability. Our goal is to create a state-of-the-art virtual testing and validation environment, driving digital innovation in the defense industry."
